Sexual Assault Awareness Month - Day of Action
In South Carolina, EVERY day is a Day of Action Against Sexual Assault! SC Attorney General Alan Wilson to speak at Statehouse Event to kickoff Sexual Assault Awareness Month
The month of April has been designated Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) in the United States. The goal of SAAM is to raise public awareness about sexual violence and to educate communities and individuals on how to prevent sexual violence. In South Carolina, SCCADVASA will kick off SAAM on Tuesday, April 3, 2012, with a Day of Action dedicated to showing the hard work that goes on every day in our state to prevent, treat, and heal sexual violence. SC Attorney General Alan Wilson will be present to recognize services provided to sexual assault victims across the state every day.
On Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at 10am, sexual assault victim advocates will gather at the State House to tell the stories of sexual assault centers across South Carolina that are in the front lines in the fight against sexual violence. From advocates who provide sexual assault prevention strategies in classrooms to volunteers who wake up at 3am to go to the hospital with a rape victim, SCCADVASA member organizations are working 24/7, 365 days a year to end sexual violence in our state.
This nationally recognized day provides an opportunity for prevention advocates to engage with their communities. This year, SCCADVASA proclaims “It’s time … to talk about it” and encourages everyone to participate by using social media to join the conversation. By changing your profile pictures and focusing your status updates, tweets, and blog posts on SAAM and the Day of Action, you can engage online communities in sexual violence prevention.
