Urgent Call to Action!

The first draft of the state budget currently being debated by the South Carolina House eliminates $800,000 in essential funding for domestic violence organizations providing services to victims and their children. Last year, this funding supported crucial needs in communities across the state including repairs to shelter buildings, transportation and prevention programming in schools.

The need to support victims of domestic violence remains critical. In the last year, domestic violence organizations answered 19,858 hotline calls and provided emergency shelter to 3,288 victims and their children. On one day in September 2016, they were unable to respond to 44 requests for assistance due to lack of capacity, 86% of these requests were for housing.

We need you to contact your South Carolina House representative to tell them how important these services are to victims in your community. Urge them to support the provisos being introduced that will preserve this funding in the House budget. Follow these simple steps to make your voice heard:

1. Call or email your House Representative. Find your legislator and contact them TODAY.
2. Share this call to action with your friends and family through your social media and urge them to participate too.
