The SC Coalition against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault and its member organizations across the state will organize events to promote awareness about the devastating public health crisis of domestic violence and sexual assault and facilitate campaigns to educate the citizens of South Carolina about the support and services that are available. Using the tag #SCSaysNoMore we will bring awareness to the numerous communities and individuals on how we as a coalition say no more to domestic violence and sexual assault.
Domestic violence is a community-wide public health issue that affects every individual and family in South Carolina. The latest data available (2013) ranks SC worst in the nation for women murdered by men* and it has been ranked in the top ten states every year since 1996. Domestic violence thrives when the community is silent; but if we take a stand and work together, we can end domestic and intimate partner violence.
Sexual Assault affect adults and children in SC not only as victim and survivors but also as family members, loved ones, friends, neighbors or coworkers of a victim. It is one the most devastating crimes in our society today, with victims suffering lifelong pain from physical injury and serious emotional trauma. When we speak as one voice we help prevent, treat and heal from sexual violence in our community.
