On Thursday, March 5th, join the South Carolina Victim Assistance Network (SCVAN), SCCADVASA, community partners, and survivors and their families for the 2026 Victims Matter Rally and Advocacy Day at the South Carolina State House.
At 9:30AM, participants will gather in the State House Lobby for a brief program. Speakers will include elected officials, Sarah Ford (SCVAN), Sara Barber (SCCADVASA), and Evelyn Mitchell, a survivor whose advocacy resulted in the establishment of the rape kit tracking database.
Following the program, attendees may engage with their elected officials by asking their representative(s) to briefly leave the legislative floor and speak with them in the lobby regarding prioritizing essential funding to support victim services and the passage and implementation of policies that recognize the needs of victims in response to crimes. Select the thumbnail images below to learn more about proposed legislation supporting survivors and download these documents for use when speaking with your representatives.

In preparation for the event, participants are encouraged to review the “Your Voice Matters” online training presentation to learn more about the legislative process in South Carolina, how to track and understand pending bills in the State House and Congress that may affect survivors’ rights and access to services, and how to effectively craft personal stories to help build legislative support.
Organizations from across the state will also be present to provide information about resources available to support survivors in their communities. Read the event press release.
