SCCADVASA’s Basic Training Course for Victim Service Providers

This course is an intensive, interactive learning experience for new Victim Service Providers (VSPs) to gain foundational skills including strengths-based approaches, advocacy for adult survivors of domestic and sexual violence, and collaboration with community partners. This course is designed for professionals who have been approved by the Department of Crime Victim Services Training, Provider Certification, and Statistical Analysis (CVST, formerly OVSEC) to become VSPs.

The course is delivered through a combination of virtual meetings and online training modules so that individuals can receive most of the training at whatever time and location is convenient for them.

The course is broken down into 3 parts: An opening Intro Meeting held on Zoom, eLearning modules completed at your own pace, and a closing Large Group Meeting, also held on Zoom.

Completion Policy

Participants must attend and complete all three parts of the Basic Victim Service Provider (VSP) training by their designated due date to advance in and complete the course. Before registering, ensure that you can attend and complete all 3 parts:

  • Introductory Session
  • Online Lessons
  • Large Group Session

The dates for each of the cohorts and their components are listed below. If there is a conflict, reach out to [email protected] as soon as possible for the best solution.

Supervisors and agency leadership should work proactively with their team to ensure staff have enough time to complete the online lessons by their due date and can attend the Intro & Large Group sessions. If a conflict or *emergency arises, supervisors must reach out in advance to SCCADVASA at [email protected] to find a solution.

Non-Completion

Participants will be dropped from the course if they fail to complete or attend each component of the training. Supervisors and/or Agency leadership will be notified when a staff member at their organization does not complete the course.

If the failure to attend is due to a documented *emergency, it is the responsibility of the participant and/or the agency to reach out to SCCADVASA training staff as soon as possible to discuss the possibility of reenrollment at a later date.

*Emergencies include but are not limited to documented family or medical emergencies, natural disasters, and other emergencies on a case-by-case basis with documented justification. Work conflicts are not an excuse not to attend or finish a part of the course.

Non-member organizations will not be able to register their staff for SCCADVASA’s Basic VSP Course until the next calendar year if the organization fails to:

  • Notify SCCADVASA that their staff is no longer taking the course
  • Notify SCCADVASA of the reason their staff has failed to complete the course in a timely manner
